Crash Theatre Company shoots and scores with award-winning original musical Lady Macbeth Played Wing Defence, serving hot and sporty girl power like you’ve never seen before.

Lady Macbeth Played Wing Defence, a musical that explores the dangers of unchecked ambition and the ferocity of teenage girls on the netball court. The musical is presented by Crash Theatre Co and underpinned by electronic pop-synth music composition by Perth artist & musician Project BEXX. Since its debut in January 2024, this show has presented several sold-out seasons across Australia, receiving multiple awards and critical acclaim, along with releasing an original cast album on all major music streaming services.

Since recently concluding its highly successful debut, Lady Macbeth Played Wing Defence has left audiences exhilarated, the production is currently touring the Australian Fringe Festival circuit, commencing with a schools-only presentation at the Subiaco Arts Centre WA, followed by Sydney Fringe, Melbourne Fringe , Perth Fringe , Bunbury Fringe and Adelaide Fringe Festival across 2024 – 2025.

Step onto the court of this contemporary turmoil that entangles the timeless allure of Shakespearean drama, presented by an all-female powerhouse team of Western Australian artists.

In a thrilling Shakespearean twist on the netball court, Mac Beth passionately pursues the coveted title of Year 12 Netball Captain of the Dunsinane Hell-Hounds. Expect a gripping tale of ambition, betrayal, and redemption as Coach Duncan’s decisions spark a fierce battle for leadership. The Dagger Divas, a trio of dreamy melodies (think Dreamgirls but Mean Girls), visit Mac in her slumbers, echoing the bard’s famous ghostly encounters. They fuel her with the fire to overcome adversity and fight on. Amid accusations and plot twists, Mac’s determination leads her to the brink of glory. But her reckless actions take her to the edge of despair, creating suspicion and fear among her teammates. As alliances shift and friendships fracture, a climactic showdown awaits the netball battlefield. Will Mac’s relentless drive for success ultimately lead to her triumph, or banishment?

Lady Macbeth Played Wing Defence premiered in New South Whales at Off Broadway Hub, Turner Theatre in Sydney 26 – 29 September 2024. The season completely sold out and was awarded overall Best in Cabaret and Musical Theatre for the 2024 Sydney Fringe Festival. 

Lady Macbeth Played Wing Defence premiered in Victoria at the Festival Hub, ETU Ballroom in Melbourne from 2 – 5 October 2024.

Returning to its home state, Lady Macbeth Played Wing Defence will remount at Perth’s FRINGE WORLD Festival in 2025. Showing at the State Theatre Centre’s Studio Underground as part of the State of Play program from 17 – 24 January 2025, tickets are on sale now at fringeworld.com.au.
